Latvia Invites
Latvian government actively lobbies possible export of Kazakhstani oil via Ventspils. Latvia sees this route as an alternative to two Russian routes to Novorossiysk and Primorsk. Concerning Quotas
Ministry of Power, Industry and Trade intends to link export of oil with its supply to the domestic market with the view to increase utilization of oil refineries in the republic. Tractebel Has Almost Left And Gazprom Has Almost Come
In the end of February, during his visit to Astana Minister of Fuel and Power Energy of Russia Victor Kalyuzhny made comments about rumors relating to possible departure of Belgian company Tractebel from Kazakhstani gas market and its replacement with Russian company Gazprom. The Government of Kazakhstan has authorized KazTransOil to develop proposals for oil transport tariff increase and improve the current methods of calculation taking in account the investment program, external funding sources and fixed assets upgrade. details >>
OIL PRODUCTION
In 2000 Kazakhstan is planning to increase oil production by 10%, i.e. up to 33 million tons compared to that of 1999. In 2001 oil production in Kazakhstan will reach 37.7 million tons and in 2002 - 41.7 million tons. According to Nurlan Balgimbayev, President of Kazakhoil annual oil production in Kazakhstan will be 200-220 million tons within the nearest 10 years. details >>
