Karachaganak: the project development is restrained
by gas utilization
West-Kazakhstan oblast is one of the leading ones in the field of national oil and gas projects. There is located the world biggest Karachaganak condensate field. Increase in the production in Karachaganak is restrained by a problem of disposition of rising volumes of oil well gas. Caspian Infrastructure Projects
Investments in development of the Kazakhstan sector of the Caspian Sea is growing fast. In 2003-2005 there were $3.8 bn invested. According to Vice-President of KMG Zhaksybek Kulekeyev, $2.8 bln were spent for the implementation of major investment projects during the last 3 years. In 2006 KazMunaiGas intends to spend $4 bln for the implementation of investment projects. Among the financed projects the purchase of 8.33% interest in the North-Caspina project. LUKOIL hopes to have favorable conditions
LUKOIL annually plans to produce 10-12 bln cubic m of gas and 10-12 tonnes of oil in Kazakhstan and Central Asia, Leonid Fedun, vice-president of the company said. The State’s Pre-Emptive Right
There is a view that any pre-emptive right in any company, and not merely the State’s pre-emptive right in the case of a subsoil user, materially devalues the value of any company and any shares in it. The Caspian Needs Government Protection
Presently, the Caspian waters submerge about 200 abandoned wells, but if the sea level rises, the number of watersealed wells can come to about 1,500. The well covers are not capable to stand the impact of aggressive seawaters over a long period of time. The most dangerous thing is that it is difficult to foresee which of 1,500 wells may leak first. These wells were operated more than a half century ago, and from that time they have not been inspected for their safety. details >>
